Ο Dr. Αριστοτέλης Κεχαγιάς MD PhD FACS έχει πλούσιο επιστημονικό έργο ως ο βασικός συντελεστής πρωτότυπων κλινικών μελετών στον τομέα της χειρουργικής. Οι έρευνες αυτές είναι προϊόν συνεργασίας με κορυφαία νοσοκομεία και ερευνητικά κέντρα στα οποία έχει θητεύσει ο Dr. Κεχαγιάς στην Φινλανδία, την Σουηδία, την Ολλανδία, την Ιταλία, αλλά και την Ελλάδα.

Ο βασικός λόγος που ώθησε και συνεχίζει να ωθεί τον Dr. Κεχαγιά για την παραγωγή ακαδημαϊκού και ερευνητικού έργου είναι η δημιουργία εμπεριστατωμένης ιατρικής γνώσης υψηλού επιπέδου. Σκοπός είναι η βελτίωση της υπάρχουσας χειρουργικής διάγνωσης και θεραπείας με όφελος την βελτίωση της παροχής υγείας στους ασθενείς ανά την υφήλιο. Οι δημοσιεύσεις μας είναι καινοτόμες και συνεισφέρουν νέα δεδομένα και κορυφαία γνώση στους συνάδελφους ιατρούς και χειρουργούς διεθνώς.

Πολλές από τις ιδέες του Dr. Κεχαγιά έχουν μετουσιωθεί σε δημοσιευμένο υλικό σε ευγνωσμένα διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και χαίρουν ιδιαίτερης εκτίμησης από τη διεθνή επιστημονική κοινότητα ως “opinion making”. Πλέον, μελέτες με την προσωπική σφραγίδα του Dr. Κεχαγιά αποτελούν κομμάτι των διεθνών κατευθυντήριων οδηγιών σε διάφορους τομείς όπως για παράδειγμα η οξεία εκκολπωματίτιδα ή η αποφυγή μετεγχειρητικής διαφυγής της αναστόμωσης σε επεμβάσεις του πεπτικού σωλήνα.

Το ερευνητικό έργο συνεχίζεται μέσω της ιδιωτικής δραστηριότητας του Dr. Κεχαγιά καθώς και μέσω των συνεργασιών με νοσοκομεία των προαναφερθείσων χωρών οι οποίες πλαισιώνονται από την προσωπική φιλία και αναγνώριση από κορυφαίους καθηγητές χειρουργικής διεθνώς.

Τέλος, είναι άξιο αναφοράς ότι δυστυχώς ο ιδιωτικός τομέας στην χώρα μας έχει σχεδόν μηδενική ερευνητική δραστηριότητα γιατί ως γνωστόν η ανεξάρτητη έρευνα απαιτεί αφιέρωση πολύ προσωπικού χρόνου χωρίς όμως να αποφέρει το παραμικρό οικονομικό όφελος στον ιατρό-ερευνητή ο οποίος επιπλέον πρέπει να διαθέτει υψηλού επιπέδου ιατρική και επιστημονική κατάρτιση. Αντίθετα, το πιστεύω μας έιναι ότι η ερευνητική συνεισφορά είναι διαρκής υποχρέωση για την βελτίωση της υγείας του συνόλου και ως μέσο προόδου, ανεξάρτητα προσωπικού όφελους.
